Currently, Elise Bryant’s “It’s Elementary,” Calahan Skogman’s “Blue Graffiti” and Yangsze Choo’s “The Fox Wife.”Describe your ideal reading experience (when, where, what, how). Either way, I’m laughing, crying and by the end, calling someone I love to let them know what they mean to me. Describe your ideal way to procrastinate from writing. I don’t know if it’s ideal, but I know a lot about “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” if that answers your question. Spring arrives, and with it, a semi-annoying, semi-invigorating mandate to spring clean — to clear out spaces both physical and psychological. Because I am constantly looking for reasons to get rid of old things, old ways of thinking and being that have outstayed their usefulness, I’m drawn to spring cleaning as an annual rite. But because I am also constantly reckoning with a pesky sense of dread regarding obligations of any size, I also find the concept of spring cleaning over-ambitious and intimidating. and panic (it’s that time of year and, once again, I have waited too long to call the accountant!). Then she mentioned how accomplished she felt after sewing a button on a shirt to ready it for the sale.

In Israel’s nascent days, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion agreed with Haredi rabbis to exempt from military service 400 men studying in religious schools, or yeshivas. Now, those piecemeal attempts to maintain the Haredi exemption may be running out. When the government came to power in late 2022, forming the most right-wing coalition in Israel’s history, the Haredim sensed an opportunity. The Israeli military has had a significant number of soldiers wounded in Gaza and has instituted massive call ups. Black Friday's spending spike reflects a consumer who is more willing to spend than in 2022, when gas and food prices were painfully high. Pandya noted that impulse purchases may have played a role in the Black Friday growth since $5.3 billion of the online sales came from mobile shopping. A Mastercard analysis of this year's Black Friday sales found that in-store sales rose just over 1% versus online sales, which grew by over 8% compared to last year. Black Friday kept the momentum going from the day before on Thanksgiving when online sales totaled $5.6 billion, according to a prior Adobe analysis. The report forecasts that online shoppers will spend roughly $10 billion over the course of Saturday and Sunday, and a record $12 billion on Cyber Monday.

High inflation and interest rates have made it hard for people of all ages to build up emergency funds, but Gen Z seems to be having a particularly difficult time stashing away cash, a recent Bank of America survey found. In fact, 56% of Gen Zers say they don't have enough savings to cover three months of expenses in the event of an emergency. Given that emergency funds tend to grow as people get older and wealthier, Gen Z's lack of savings doesn't come as a shock to Douglas Boneparth, certified financial planner and president of Bone Fide Wealth. But this doesn't mean that younger generations should procrastinate when it comes to starting an emergency fund. Here are the basics of an emergency fund and why it's important for Gen Z to begin stashing away cash now.

Three tips to maximize benefits during open enrollment

More than two out of three employees (67%) spend less than 30 minutes reviewing benefits options during open enrollment season, while almost half spend less than 20 minutes, a new Voya Financial survey shows. To get enrollment over with quickly, more than 90% of employees click the same options as last year, a new report by insurer Aflac shows. Compound that figure from enrollment every November, and you can see how your options can create a solid financial future or a shaky one. "Open enrollment isn't just a formality. After all, things might have changed since the previous open enrollment.

Ron Shaich spent roughly two decades building Panera Bread into nationwide behemoth, ultimately selling it for $7.5 billion in 2017. The Panera co-founder, 69, credits that success to a simple practice, which he did — and still does — once per year, he tells CNBC Make It: writing a "pre-mortem." Between Christmas and his December 30 birthday, Shaich dedicates a day or two to visualize himself at the end of his life, he says. He writes a news story, obituary or journal entry from that hypothetical future, looking back on his own endeavors, listing only the most important accomplishments. Then, he maps out how to get from his current state to that future version of himself.

"Despite inflicting significant losses on Russian armed forces, Ukraine's four-and-a-half-month-old counteroffensive has not achieved major territorial gains nor managed to slice through Russia's 'land bridge' to Crimea," he added. "The hope is that they're far enough through the Russian defensive lines now ... to make some rapid progress. Russian forces had months to prepare layers of defenses including extensive networks of trenches; anti-tank obstacles such as ditches and "dragon's teeth"; and minefields. Russian forces are also receiving support from artillery, attack helicopters and other aircraft, again impeding Ukraine's forces. Minefields, in particular, have disrupted Ukraine's offensive momentum and rate of advance, according to analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

The uprising that began nearly three weeks ago with the toppling of Speaker Kevin McCarthy has now weakened three of the most powerful figures in the House GOP. Twisting colored squares together in the right order seems simple by comparison with attempts to unite a House Republican conference unable to comprehend how clownish it looks. “We need (a speaker) because the House can’t do anything without a speaker,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday. “This is probably one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen because if we don’t have a speaker of the House, we can’t govern. “This is embarrassing for the Republican Party.

D3sign | Moment | Getty ImagesIf you have yet to purchase your fall and winter holiday travel and are hoping for a bargain airfare, time is running out. "Travelers are going to miss out on the opportunity to save when they wait too long," said Hayley Berg, lead economist at Hopper. In early October, 85% of Hopper app users who intended to book holiday travel had yet to do so, according to a survey of 500 people. In the last few days before Christmas, travelers could see price jumps of about $40 a day, Hopper anticipates. Fares will likely become increasingly competitive as travelers wait, "judging by the number of people traveling this year," said Elizabeth Ayoola, a personal finance writer at NerdWallet.

Recent research found that fully remote workers were less productive than office workers. A recent analysis of multiple studies by the Stanford economist Nick Bloom, a leading remote-work expert, found that fully remote workers were 10% to 20% less productive than their in-office counterparts. But the research has found, on average, those working in the office at least some of the time are more productive . Even Zoom, which is synonymous with remote work, recently called some employees back to the office for at least two days a week. Bloom recently estimated 60% of Americans worked fully in person, 30% worked in person between one and four days per week, and 10% worked fully remotely.

As a psychologist of 15 years, I've found that when we feel unworthy, we often do things that sabotage our financial plans. Ultimately, not getting those raises and promotions can end up costing you tens of thousands of dollars over the course of your career. While spending money on what you want isn't a bad thing, attempting to feel better about yourself through retail therapy won't produce lasting feelings of worthiness. Identify things you can do to help yourself feel better that don't require spending money. A few examples: calling a friend, taking a walk in the park or making a list of things you're grateful for.

Ludwig says it is due to a lack of intrinsic motivation, willpower, and fear of failure. "Procrastination is not a time management issue. It's an emotional management issue," says Petr Ludwig, author of The End of Procrastination: How to Stop Postponing and Lead a Fulfilled Life. The result is escaping from the stress and effort of a particular task by doing something you know you shouldn't do. "Self-forgiveness" is a helpful strategy in fighting procrastination, says Ludwig.

Elon Musk spoke this week on a topic few CEOs want to weigh in on publicly: China's intentions to ultimately integrate Taiwan as part of the People's Republic of China. "The official policy of China is that Taiwan should be integrated. And he added, "the situation is actually a lot worse for a lot of other companies than Tesla. "I don't think it's imminent but I do think companies should heed what he [Musk] says." The U.S. government policy remains to not take an official position on Taiwan as an independent and sovereign state.
Your Child Picked a College! Tee Up Your 529 Plan

Biden’s student debt forgiveness plan isn’t the only change coming for student loan borrowers. His plan also fundamentally changes how loans will be repaid, turning many into, essentially, free college grants. This month kicked off with college decision day, the May 1 deadline for many high-school seniors to pick a school. It should also prompt parents to plan withdrawals from so-called 529 college-savings plans. “There’s so much focus on putting dollars into 529 plans that people forget about taking the money out—and parents procrastinate because they’re busy,” says Mary Morris , chief executive of Virginia529, which recently held $86 billion for savers.
He used ChatGPT to help with work assignments for one week before telling his coworkers or manager. I used ChatGPT every day at work for a week and didn't tell anyone. And day to day, I could be coding, working in Google Sheets, fixing up dashboards, or doing other tasks. I waited until I used it for a full week before talking about it during our team's weekly meeting. When I first used ChatGPT at work, I was trying to create a new field in Looker that would classify records based on some criteria defined by an algorithm.
When it comes to filing taxes, people "can get caught in a thought loop and often overthink in these situations," Dr. Moss says. Others are stressed about the strict deadline for filing taxes. Tax stress can spill out into the rest of your lifeKol explains that this stress often makes late filers "want to stay far away from taxes." The stress of filing late can spill over into other parts of life. "At the end of the day, filing taxes is emotional for some people, and that's something that I have an understanding of from working with my clients," she says.
But if you're still missing key forms or feeling overwhelmed, you can buy more time by filing a free tax extension. You can avoid a late-filing penalty with an extension by the federal deadline on April 18. You may also need a separate state income tax extension, depending on where you live. How to file a federal tax extensionIf you can't make the April 18 tax deadline, there are a few ways to file for a federal extension, with or without a tax professional. One option is to file Form 4868 online via IRS Free File, which offers free guided tax prep software.
Nearly a third of Americans procrastinate filing their taxes, according to a recent survey from small business research site Chamber of Commerce. Atlanta, Georgia, is home to the most Tax Day procrastinators, according to the survey. Orlando, Salt Lake City, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, round out the top five cities. The organization then analyzed the volume of Google searches in each city for terms related to filing taxes late such as "file tax extension," "penalty for late taxes" and "can you file your taxes late?" Here are the top 10 cities that procrastinate the most on tax filing.
